Biography
Terzyan David Vageevich was born on October 7, 1973 in Yerevan, into a musical family.
From1990-1996 he studied at the Yerevan State Conservatory named after A. Komitas at the string department, specializing in violin and in parallel at the faculty of opera and symphony conducting.
In 1997, he completed his postgraduate studies as an opera and symphony conductor in the class of the world famous conductor Ogan Duryan Narc. , whose name is famous in 110 countries of the world.
As a professional violinist David Terzyan worked for 20 years in various ensembles: as a concertmaster of the Yerevan Symphony Youth Orchestra of Armenia, in the piano quintet of the Yerevan State Conservatory, in the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and TV Armenia, in the chamber orchestra in Zilina (Slovakia), in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Acapulco (Mexico). All these years he toured in different countries: USA, France, Slovakia, Austria, Mexico, Russia, etc.
At the age of 18 David Terzyan began his career as a conductor. During this period in Armenia, he founded his first chamber orchestra "Sagmos" at the Apostolic Church, and a year later, the chamber orchestra "Renaissance" at the Choir Society of Yerevan.
At the age of 22, in1995, on a competitive basis among the numerous conductors of the participants, he was selected for the position of assistant conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Radio and Television of Armenia. The experience of working with a symphony orchestra helped to reveal and demonstrate more of David Terzyan's musical abilities, both in his manual conducting technique and in the interpretation of works by great composers of different eras from Bach to Shostakovich.
From1999 to 2010, he worked as a conductor at the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra (Mexico).
In 2005he became a laureate of the II Eduard Mata International Conducting Competition.
Since 2010, a new milestone has begun in the life of David Terzyan. At the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of Abkhazia and art. head and director of the State Chamber Orchestra of Abkhazia, People's ArtistAnatoly Khagba, David Terzyan arrives in Abkhazia. Here he assumes the post of Chief Conductor of the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Abkhazia, and is also appointed conductor of the military brass band of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Abkhazia. For 10 years, Maestro Terzyan has been immersed in the hard work of reviving the republic's symphony orchestra.
D. Terzyan's dedication and diligence bears fruit both in the chamber orchestra and in the orchestra of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Abkhazia. The repertoire is growing and improving, new professional cadres appear, their work is gaining more and more popularity and recognition among a wide range of spectators, both in Abkhazia and abroad. During the period from 2010 to 2020, David Terzyan held more than 250 concerts.In 2017, for the first time in the history of the orchestra, within the framework of the cultural exchange "Russia-Abkhazia", a tour to the capital of the Russian Federation , Moscow, took place, which was a great success.In 2020, the ensemble was again invited to Moscow to perform in the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P. Tchaikovsky. In the work of the State Chamber Orchestra under the direction of David Terzyan, a considerable share is occupied by projects that popularize the music of Abkhaz composers, as well as music of the Baroque and Classicism era, works of composers romantics, impressionists, music of Soviet composers and contemporary music are performed. In order to improve spiritual and moral education, educational concerts are held for children and youth.
In 2013, a decree was signed on conferring the honorary title "Honored Artist of the Republic of Abkhazia"on David Terzyan, and in 2020on conferring the honorary title"People's Artist of the Republic of Abkhazia". Much remains to be done by the chief conductor of Abkhazia to achieve the main goal, but he believes that the day will come when the anthem of our country will be performed by the State Abkhaz Symphony Orchestra.
